In April 2008, three trailer-mounted pumps reached the current world record for vertical concrete pumping. At the construction site of the Burj Khalifa, the worlds tallest building, concrete was pumped to a record height of 606 meters m. A strategically designed concrete pumping system made the final conveying height a reality, as the concrete flowed through several stages up the 828-m tower.
At the Burj site, soils are very corrosive, having both high chloride and sulfate contents, so high-performance, dense concrete is a must. The idea to build the Burj started in 2003 when Emaar Properties, Dubai, decided to develop a new central downtown area.

The structure is 828m tall and the whole system is a reinforced concrete tower structure. This was the first attempt in world history to have such a large height for structures.
